Both Knoxville and Memphis are coming off some tough losses, Memphis especially who not only 15 minutes ago was Honky Tonk Stomped by Nashville. There is a long rivalry between Memphis and Knoxville, with both teams trading places at the 9 and 10 spot in the South Central Region's rankings for years. Knoxville won their last two meetings, but Memphis has won the Stomp twice, first back in 2007, and then in 2008. The winner of this game has a good chance to make it to Regionals, while the loser most likely will not. Fortunately for Knoxville they brought home the win, and a shot at Regionals. After several tense lead changes, the final score was Knoxville 161 - Memphis 123.
Knoxville took the lead with Drop Dead Gorgeous (DDG) picking up a fast 4 points. The famous Goblynn from Knoxville jammed against Tenacious B from Memphis and took another lead and left the score at 12 to 0 in three minutes. After a few jams all-stars Goblynn and Lil' Cinner lined up against each other for the first time. Goblynn started the fight right off the jammer line and picked up the lead status, while Cinner was stuck in the pack. After 10 minutes Memphis was still scoreless, and Knoxville seemed content to sit on the pivot line with 30 points. Led by Knox Villain, Knoxville kept a strong wall with a Memphis jammer stuck behind it at all times. With 17 minutes left in the half Memphis started with a power jam. After a quick knee start and nearly stand still packs, Tenacious B managed to put Memphis on the board with 18 points. Memphis's Lil' Cinner lined up against DDG from Knoxville, but DDG picked up the lead and 4 points before calling it off.
Goblynn continued to jam almost every other jam, and Memphis relied on a slightly heavier jammer rotation. Lil' Cinner picked up lead with 10 minutes left in the half; however, she was physically punished with an inadvertent hit to the face, and a powerful hit that knocked her to the ground right as she was calling the jam off. Her efforts paid off, closing the lead to Knoxville 51, Memphis 21. Not long after, Goblynn got sent to the penalty box giving Memphis a power jam and closing the gap to just 14 points. No sooner had the next jam started than Knoxville's jammer DDG got sent to the box; however, before Memphis could capitalize on the power jam, their jammer, New Jersey Turn Dyke, was sent right after her, releasing DDG. The result was Knoxville picking up big points, lengthening their lead to 26 points. The last jam saw Goblynn go against Tenaciousness B. B had a lot of trouble getting through Knoxville's hard hitting pack, while Goblynn had no trouble raking in 9 points. The half ended with the score at Knoxville 78, Memphis 43.
The first jam of the second half started with a Lil' Cinner power jam, though she was not the lead jammer. It helped either way, and the score was 85 Knoxville - 61 Memphis after two minutes. Shortly thereafter, Memphis picked up another power jam but no lead, and left the score at a much closer Knoxville 95, Memphis 84 after just 6 minutes. Memphis was on a roll at this point and used lots of fast knee starts, and closed Knoxville's lead to just 6 points. Goblynn and Lil' Cinner lined up against each other again with 20 minutes left in the game. Both teams played heavy defense, as Memphis's wall kept the mighty Goblynn tied up while Brooken Bones assisted her jammers with whips.
After 13 minutes in the second half the score was Knoxville 99, Memphis 98. Knoxville's DDG picked up another major and gave Memphis their third power jam of the half, resulting in our first lead change, with a now 12 point lead by Memphis. The power jam continued for Memphis into the next jam; however, Memphis's jammer picked up her own major, letting Knoxville's DDG come back on to the track early. The jam ended and DDG was replaced by Goblynn who took 3 points before a fast call off. Knoxville's DDG gave up another power jam to Memphis with 10 minutes left in the game, but Memphis's jammer Rolls Royce followed her to the box not a few seconds later. The result was Knoxville 111 - Memphis 121.
Goblynn finally took some wind out of Memphis's sails when she picked up the lead at the seven and a half minute mark with a power jam. Two fast no pack's allowed her to pick up points uncontested, for a total of a huge 30 point jam, and another lead change. Knoxville 141 - Memphis 121. DDG followed the performance with her own fast lead, while Knoxville's rejuvenated blockers kept the Memphis jammer stuck in the pack. Goblynn proceeded to widen the lead to 153 - 123. With just two minutes left in the game Memphis used a series of fast starts in an attempt to put points up, but at the one minute mark DDG grabbed lead against Lil' Cinner, and took 4 points back to her bench. Memphis called a time out with less than 30 seconds left, hoping to close the 34 point gap. Another quick start saw Goblynn pick up lead and run out the clock before calling it off just before the game clock expired. Memphis got another time out in at the very last second, but now the gap was 38 points. Knoxville's DDG picked up a lead before the apex and called it off immediately, ending the game at Knoxville 161 - Memphis 123.
